Suspects Arrested Over TU MBS First-Semester Question Paper Leak on WhatsApp
The question paper for Tribhuvan University’s Master of Business Studies (MBS) first-semester examination was reportedly shared through WhatsApp only a few minutes after the examination began last Friday. Education Minister Sasmit Pokharel said the main suspects were taken into police custody within 24 hours of the incident being reported.
Immediate Investigation Ordered:
In a statement shared on Facebook, Minister Pokharel said he immediately coordinated with the relevant authorities after receiving information about the question paper leak.
Considering the seriousness of the incident, he contacted Inspector General of Nepal Police Dan Bahadur Karki and requested an immediate investigation. The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) and the Cyber Bureau were subsequently mobilised to investigate the case.
Police analysed digital evidence and activities within the relevant WhatsApp groups before identifying and arresting the suspected individuals. The investigation remains underway, and authorities are working to determine whether any other people were involved.
Minister Calls for Strict Legal Action
Minister Pokharel said the incident could not be treated as an ordinary case because it directly concerns the credibility of the examination system, the reputation of educational institutions and the future of thousands of honest students.
He stressed that everyone involved in leaking or circulating the question paper should face legal action, regardless of their identity or position.
The minister also described the incident as an opportunity to identify and address possible weaknesses within the university’s examination system. He called for a thorough review of question paper security, examination procedures and possible internal lapses.
